Andrew and Kate- 2 Years Old

Andrew- 33.5 inches, 31 pounds
Kate- 33 inches, 27.5 pounds

It is just so hard for me to believe these kiddos are TWO.  In some ways it feels like they have been in our family much longer but this past year has flown by extremely fast!  So what are these two up to lately???

Andrew-   You have really started to come out of your shell lately.  You can be wild and crazy, you love to dance!  Of all of our kids you are by far the most agile and advanced with gross motor skills at this age.  Recently I looked over outside and you were on top of the play house, you had climbed the rock wall all by yourself!  In the mornings you run and jump and swing back and forth off the ground while holding onto the top of the high chair.  We had to put the train table away for now because all you did was climb and jump.  You are our daredevil!  One of your favorite things is for your dad to throw you high in the air or onto the bed.  You are also our best eater in terms of variety.  You love to read books, to build blocks and to watch Elmo.  Your speech is getting much better.  Recently you started doing lots of two word phrases.  Two of my favorite words are hearing you say James and Harrison.  For some reason you recently got confused and you keep calling Kate Andrew!  You have the brightest smile and you bring so much joy to our family!  You wear a size 8 shoes and are in 24 months/2T clothes.

Kate- You are also wild and crazy!  Lately you have been very stubborn and strong willed.  You also are super sweet and cuddly.  When I got home the other day you came over to me and said "Hug mama?"  You also love to "rock rock mama" and your mama loves those snugly moments with you and your brother.  Your speech has taken off.  Every day you are saying more and more words and are putting them into sentences.  Of all of the kids you are the most opinionated at this age and I'm afraid you may have inherited the Creech indecisive gene.  The other day it took you forever to decide which pair of underwear was the best to wear that day!  You are also very adamant about what shoes you need to have on, you love to wear a hair bow, and love to carry small toys/dolls everywhere you go.  You love carbs and sweets and you are definitely NOT a daredevil.  "I'm scared" is a phrase I hear frequently from you.  You don't care much for television but you also love to read books.  Your brothers continue to be completely smitten with you!  You wear 18-24 month clothing and are in a size 7 shoe.

Both of you love each other so much.  I hear you laughing and twin talking every day.  At night when we rock in the rocking chair you snuggle up with me with your arms around each other.  It has also been hilarious to see you learn to tattle on each other and on yourselves.  I have a feeling blame shifting is going to be something we deal with a lot in the future! Your older brothers ADORE you.  One of the ways I know it was God's plan for us to have these four kids is seeing how well everyone meshes together.  Every morning James and Harrison are adamant that they go in to wake you up (they have done this since you were very little).  I recently asked your dad why was that so important to them and his reply was "I think they genuinely really all love each other."   One of my biggest prayers is that the four of you will stay close and support each other throughout life with that same, fierce love that you have right now.

On your birthday this year I was reflecting back to the day you were born and the days after.  One thing that stuck out to me this year was thinking about how the doctors referred to you both as "medically fragile" , how tiny and helpless you were.  I was remembering how when we finally got you home how careful we had to be and how hard life was- whether it was wacking Andrew on the back when his heart monitor went off to get his stats up or measuring out the multiple medicines that you were both on,  the incessant hand washing, or the countless follow up doctor's appointments you had that first year.   The insane sleep deprivation, the never ending nurse, pump, bottle cycle; I feel tired just thinking about it!   I also remembered one of the nurses saying to me on a bad day at the hospital "I know it is hard to believe now but one day you will look at them and you will find it hard to believe they were ever like this".  Thinking back to this past year, year two I am so thrilled that she was right.  You are both vibrant, healthy, HUGE, toddlers!  This year you have learned to walk, to talk, you have opinions, likes and dislikes. You have started preschool and you are potty trained!  So cheers to us making it through another year and praise Jesus, it was a whole lot better than that first year! We love you both so much!
