New Year's Eve Getaway!

Ryan's main present from me this year was a mini getaway for New Year's Eve.  I hotwired (is that even a word?) a hotel and was really excited that we got The Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill.  I was super excited to get to plan it for him and for once he didn't figure out the surprise. Normally I cannot keep a secret from him no matter what I do! Even more exciting was that David and Greer decided to come along and join us! 

Ryan and I left as early as possible (haha) Tuesday morning and stopped at Crabtree to do a little shopping. I was so excited that Sara met us for lunch! (but unfortunately did not get a picture)  Then we headed to Chapel Hill where we met up with David and Greer and all went to the UNC basketball game. This was my first game- lots of fun. But it did feel weird to be really Carolina Blue! 

Then we headed back to the hotel and changed and went to this really neat restaurant on Franklin street. 

After a COLD walk back with several stops along the way we ended up at our hotel to watch the ball drop. 

Yikes- why didn't we ask a stranger to take the picture?!?!

 The next morning (after I got a glorious 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep) we all had breakfast together. Then Ryan and I headed to another mall to do just a little bit more shopping. We had told my mom we wouldn't be late but ended up getting back to Gville just in time to get H to bed. Sorry Mom! We were making the most of it! 

This is how we feel about having to get back to reality

It was definitely a really special way to celebrate the New Year.  So much has happened this year- lots to reflect on and be grateful for. And it was definitely special to get to spend some one on one time with David and Greer- something we hope to do a lot more of in the future!!!
