San Diego!

Every few years San Diego hosts the biggest urological conference of the year, and Ryan was able to attend in residency.  Ever since then he has been wanting me to go.  After becoming pregnant with the twins I was adamant that I didn't want to. It was too far away. Who on earth would take care of four small kids? We would have to be gone for too long and I would be missing too much.  Well sometime in the fall when both babies were still in the hospital and our life was in a huge pit of misery Ryan brought up San Diego.  We happened to find a great cheap plane ticket for myself and as crazy as it sounds we sat on the couch that night and dreamed about what we hoped would be a happier time in our life.  Life was SO stressful at that point, we knew we had weeks of hospital stays ahead as well as a winter of being stuck in the house with very premature babies, not to mention we were coming off of months of pregnancy craziness and we really needed something to look forward to.  All this to say Ryan caught me in a weak moment, I agreed to go, and he quickly bought the ticket so I couldn't back out. :)  As the trip got closer I got a huge pit in my stomach about leaving BUT once I got on that airplane it was awesome!  We had a blast! Tons of relaxation, great food, staying up late and sleeping in. It was exactly what we needed.

We had the 6 a.m. flight which mean we had to be up at 4. Of course the babies were up before that. I don't think I slept at all! I was so excited that our second flight had tons of movies to watch. It's the little things in life that make me happy. :)
Our room wasn't ready when we got there so we upgraded and this was seriously the biggest hotel room I have ever stayed in.

Gas lamp district signs welcoming us to the conference
Our first meal was a popular Mexican restaurant (we LOVE Mexican food) and of course a margarita!
The next day while Ryan was at the conference I treated myself to a morning at the blow dry bar and got my hair and make up done. That night we went out to a fancy restaurant to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary (a month early)
I could write a whole post on the food on this trip.  My dream job would be to be a food blogger.  On every big trip we take Ryan and I always try to do one really nice restaurant, at least one hole in the wall place,  one cheap but delicious meal, and somewhere we randomly find.
The view from our dinner- you could watch the planes landing.

The next night we went to the conference grand reception at Sea World. The place was rented out just for the people attending the conference.

I'm a dork but I got so excited to pet the dolphin

Getting ready to ride the roller coaster!
Shamu show
I begged Ryan to go on the water ride with me. He was not excited.

We didn't buy the photo but I snapped a picture of it. I'm getting too old for roller coasters...
Our last night we ate at an Italian restaurant and watched the sunset and then went for a walk on the beach by the famous Coronado hotel.

Before we knew it, it was time to head home. I missed the kids SO much and was definitely ready to see them but I'm not going to lie, we had an awesome trip.  I have to also say that the only reason we were able to go and relax was thanks to both of our fabulous mothers who stepped in and took care of our four crazy kiddos!
